Sports & Leisure Activities

Between the Mersey and the Dee, there's so much to do and see!

The Wirral is home to one famous football team and a short train journey away from 2 more.

Being right by the sea, there's naturally lots of watersports activities to enjoy and if you have a decent handicap, there's some lovely golf courses too.

Football Clubs

  • Tranmere Rovers
The only true Wirral football club, based at Prenton Park. I attended quite a few home games at Tranmere due to the welcoming atmosphere and cheaper price tickets!

  • Liverpool
Across the mersey, you'll find 2 more prestigous football clubs. Anfield's famous European nights are the stuff of legend, but it can be hard to get a ticket!

  • Everton
Even though I'm a red, I've been lucky enough to visit Goodison Park several times. It's a real old-fashioned stadium and you can feel the timbers shake when the crowd roars.

Sailing and watersports

  • Windsurfing
Courses are available for all ranges of experience - New Brighton is a great location for kitesurfing too.

  • Canoeing & Sea Kayaking
Exactly the same as the windsurfing, a great activity for kids and adults alike.

  • Sailing
As well as launching at the marine lake, it's possible to set sail along the Dee.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club Hoylake

  • Over 150 years of heritage.
Founded in 1869, now world famous, with Royal status granted due to patronage.

  • Host to the Open and the Walker Cup
The first international matches between England and Scotland, and later Great Britain and the United States of America, were played here.

  • The home of amateur golf.
Although primarily a members club, the course welcomes visitors as well.
